I still am a little bit on the "I can't believe it's real" side of my brain. But when I woke up this morning, not only could I see my clock, but I could see Jeremy's clock! I really can't believe that something that took only 9 seconds per eye, has made me be able to see! It's amazing! I read on Hoopes' website that someone else said this, but I agree. The hardest part was not being able to wear my contacts for 3 weeks before! How great is that!
My last picture with glasses!
So, this is how it went. I got to Hoopes Vision Center at 9 am (I chose Hoopes for their Laser's and the experience of their doctors. But now have many other reasons why I'm glad I chose them!) Right away we were offered a fresh baked chocolate chip cookie, and the kids each got a little stuffed moose. Then I sat and watched a little clip on a mini DVD player and signed some forms. Then they took me to take some pictures of the inside of my eyes. I then talked to a doctor Yardley (who was so nice!) and he told me about my eyes. Then I talked to someone about the price and after he showed my stats to Dr Hoopes. Dr. Hoopes thought it would be better that I have PRK, instead of Lasik. The only difference being that with PRK, they don't make a little flap. They actually scrap off some of the cornea instead. It takes a little longer to heal (4-6 wks) but it uses less cornea. Mine were a little on the thin side. Another advantage; PRK is a little cheaper! So I saw Dr. Yardley again and he told me all about PRK and told me to be back for my surgery at 1:30!
So we took Logan and Summer to play at my sister Christine's house. (Thanks sis!) and went to Chili's to have lunch with my little Sister Cathryn and her friend Leah. Then we headed back to Hoopes. I got Jenna to sleep and handed her off to Jer, while they took me back. I got antibiotic drops put in and I got to take a Valium. I don't usually take any meds, but was glad to have something to make me relax. ( Although, I was more nervous that morning than I was by then. They make you feel so calm there. You can tell that place runs like clockwork!) Then I got to go back to the surgery center. I got a cute blue hair net, and blue booties, and then got to meet Dr Hoopes. He was so nice. He asked me where I was from and we chatted about Gary Colman getting arrested again, for a minute. (Sad) Then they took my glasses and I went to sit by the surgery room, and they gave me numbing drops and washed my lids. They have a big TV so you can watch the person getting it done. (I couldn't see good though, they took my glasses!) Then it was my turn. The nurse went and got Jer, and he sat behind the glass wall and watched everything. They even recorded it on DVD for me! It's crazy, I watched it last night.
They put on a little circle thing, and filled it with Alcohol. I only waited 35 seconds for that, then he scraped off some of my cornea. Then they used the laser to correct my vision and that only took 9 seconds! Yeah only 9! They washed it off and put on a contact " band-aid" and went to the next eye! I was in the room for no more than 10 min. When I sat up the nurse asked if I could see my husband. I said "YES!" It was so awesome. He was a little foggy, but I could see him! I rested my eyes for 10 min and with my drops in hand, and a cute mug full of candy, I was out of there! It was a bit expensive (3700 total) but way worth it! I know that for the next 30 to 50 years, I am going to be so glad I had this done!
Here I am with my cute protective glasses, saying bye bye forever to my glasses. I hope someone else will love them, but I never want to see them again!
I wasn't able to shower this morning so my hair is all bleh, but here are my new eyes!
